Everything You Need To Know About The adidas Torino Trainer

Last updated:

The history of the adidas Torino trainer goes back to the early 80s when every young Casual kid wanted 3 stripes and different names of European cities on their shoes.

If there’s one thing the die hard adidas collectors love, it’s literally anything to do with the City Series. The City Series from adidas captured the growing Casual movement of the late 1970s and early 1980s as young football fans looked to “one-up” each other on the terraces. After European games the Casuals would bring back new grails with them in the form of Italian sportswear and rare adidas trainers that weren’t available to buy in the UK at the time. The original Hypebeast’s of trainer culture, it was the City Series that really made its mark on the Casual scene. For 2021, OG adidas fans are treated to another City Series icon with the re-release of the adidas Torino trainer from the 3 stripes archives.

First introduced in the 1970s, the City Series was all about gum soles, colourful suede uppers & European Cities stamped across the sides. From London to Berlin, the City Series drew inspiration from each associated city and quickly became some of the most talked about trainers on the UK’s terraces. Originally introduced in 1981, we are now treated to another very special City Series re-release with the adidas Torino which takes its name from the home of the European football heavyweights, Juventus. The OG ‘Made in Yugoslavia’ model featured the signature gummy sole unit with rich suede uppers in blue & the famous t-toe detailing to the front.

Other highlights include ‘City Series MMXXI’ (2021) in gold foiling to the inside collar, original trefoil branding to the tongue & of course the classic gum sole unit.
