The ASICS Gel-Lyte III ‘Tourmaline’ trainer could easily win the prize for one of the most colourful trainers of 2021 so far.
Celebrating its 30th anniversary last year, the GEL-Lyte III is a highly respected silhouette among avid sneaker collectors. From ATMOS map prints, Wasabi inspired hues with END. & more recently Sean Wotherspoon, the early 90s runner has seen its fair share of crazy colourways over the years. For June 2021, ASICS have now introduced the GEL-Lyte III ‘Tourmaline’ trainer which could easily be one of the most colourful GEL-Lyte’s to date.
First introduced in 1990, the GEL-Lyte III continued the legacy of GEL sole technology & the original GEL-Lyte trainer from 1987. Just like its predecessor, the GEL-Lyte III was built for speed and featured a super lightweight design. Originally designed by Matsui-san it was the first GEL-Lyte model to feature the signature split tongue, a key characteristic of the OG silhouette. The GEL-Lyte quickly became to go to shoe for runners all over the world for its super comfy GEL cushioning and lightweight 10 oz design.
Now introduced in an updated multi-coloured version, the latest ‘Tourmaline’ trainer features a mixture of suede and woven nylon uppers in a mixture of orange, green, yellow, purple and blue. Other highlights include the signature split tongue design with GEL branding to the heel & of GEL cushioning underfoot.
