New Balance Celebrate The 20th Anniversary Of The 991 Trainer
The New Balance 991 20th Anniversary trainer celebrates the early noughties 99x series trainer with a special ‘Made in the UK’ release.
First introduced in 1982, the 99x series built its reputation on quality and a “does what it says on the tin” mentality. Throughout the 1980s New Balance introduced numerous models from the celebrated running line such as the 990, the 995 and the 996. It wasn’t until 1991 however with the release of the 997, that the 99x series gained the cult following it still holds today. Built solely for performance, the 99x series didn’t need fancy marketing gimmicks, in your face colourways or some kid unboxing it on Instagram for likes. 2021 marks the 20th anniversary of another celebrated 99x series trainer, the 991, which is now treated to a very special ‘Made in UK’ anniversary release for June 2021.
First released in 2001, the 991 continued the running heritage & no fuss approach of the 99x line into the early noughties. You only have to look at the trainer for a split second to clearly see it was part of the celebrated 99x line. Featuring the signature grey tones with ABZORB sole technology in the forefoot and the heel, the 991 was a prime example of how far the 99x line had advanced in just over 20 years.
Now re-introduced for a very special 20th anniversary release, the 991 features soft nubuck leather & mesh uppers in classic grey hues with ‘2001’ embroidered to the heel, a nod to the trainers’ original release date. The inner of the tongue also features an anniversary patch with Made in England branding. Other highlights include Abzorb® cushioning & Ndurance® rubber outsole for guaranteed all day comfort under foot.
