We take an exclusive look at the Nike Air Max 90 Cuban Link trainer which features trendy chains & yummy colours.
The Air Max 90 Cuban Link, also known as ‘Velvet Brown’ released a few weeks ago as a women’s exclusive, and believe it or not, they’re still available to buy from a few sneaker retailers. In 2020 we’ve seen many iterations of the Air max 90, as Nike celebrates the 30th anniversary of the shoe, originally designed by Nike’s Vice President of Design, Tinker Hatfield. Even after the lineup of Air Max 90’s we’ve seen so far this year, such as the various Duck Camo’s, the jewelled Home and Away pack and the recent Worldwide pack, the Cuban Link addition to this lifestyle sneaker has been a real standout. Retailing at £125 (a standard price for luxury Air Max 90’s) you’re definitely getting bang for your buck with these birthday beauties.
The ‘Velvet Brown’ colourway sees a range of materials and textures, constructed from breathable mesh and premium quality leather and suede, including a variety of smooth, perforated and texture leathers. The combination of shades such as “velvet brown”, “light British tan”, “baroque brown”, yellow and pink give this shoe the aesthetic of Neapolitan ice cream, the perfect shades for Summer. To top it all off, we see finishes such as the gum outsole and heel tab, the iconic exposed air bubble in pink, and of course, the gold and silver cuban link chain with the addition of a sparkling gold mini swoosh pendant. This detachable chain detail, seen previously on the Comme Des Garcons x Shox TL, adds a luxury, eye-catching element, as if the colourway wasn’t enough to turn heads. The bling can even be worn as an anklet, so you can add some glam while wearing the rest of your sneaker rotation.
Ingredients’ inspired highlights of the Cuban Link include sugar for the toe box, laces and lining. Condensed milk for the base, tongue and eyelets. Cream for the overlays & Melted chocolate for the mudguard, midsole, outsole and backtab. Fresh strawberries for the swoosh and air bubble as well as Vanilla extract for the alternate swoosh and tongue tab.
Aside from the trendy chain, the yummy colours and the mixture of textures, the Air Max 90 are breathable and comfortable, due to the cushiony support of the well known Air technology. An additional perk to this staple silhouette is the recognisable and wearable shape, the Air Max 90 can be worn with pretty much anything for any style. They look great with dresses and skirts, jeans, streetwear, utility/workwear, you name it. This particular colourway would finish off a monochromatic beige/brown look nicely, or could be used to highlight pops of colour in your outfit or accessories. For example a plain white tee, some light wash baggy jeans, a yellow bag and the Air Max 90 Cuban Link on foot, this would be a great every-day outfit and really easy to achieve.
Shortly after the release of the Nike Air Max 90 Cuban Link trainer release, we also saw the Air Max 95 come dressed in the same colourway. Both the Nike Air Max 90 & Nike Air Max 95 Cuban Link trainers are still available to shop via the links.
