The Skepta x Nike Air Max Tailwind V trainer will mark the London Grime MC’s 5th Nike collaboration & is rumoured to drop this year.
Back in 2014, Skepta brought the OG 8 bar Grime sound with ‘That’s not me’. It wasn’t just the sound though it was the whole package that came with it. Stone Island, The North Face, Supreme 5 panel caps & Air Max trainers have long been associated with the UK’s scene but you only have to watch the video of ‘Shutdown’ from 2015 to see this for yourself. The video not only brought back the OG Grime sound to a new generation of music fans, but it also heavily featured the likes of the Nike Air Max 97, a trainer which wouldn’t be re-released for another 2 years. The significance of Air Max to the Grime scene is no different to the Stan Smith to the casuals or the Puma Suede to the B-boys. 2021 looks like there could be yet another Skepta collab on the way with rumours now circulating of the release of the Skepta x Nike Air Max Tailwind V trainer.
Following previous ‘SK Air drops’ which include the Skepta x Nike Air Max 97 from 2017, the Skepta x Nike Air Max 97/BW from 2018, the Skepta x Nike Air Max Deluxe from 2018 & the Skepta x Nike Shox from 2019, the Skepta x Nike Air Max Tailwind V trainer will mark the London Grime MC’s 5th collaboration with the American sportswear giant.
The forthcoming SK Air collab utilises the recently revived Nike Air Max Tailwind V trainer which continued the legacy of Frank Rudy’s revolutionary running trainer, the Nike Tailwind, from 1979. First released in 2000, the Air Max Tailwind V celebrated its 20th anniversary for 2020 which was originally when the Skepta collaboration was also rumoured to drop. The hybrid design features caged upper inspiration from the Nike Air Max Plus merged together with the OG noughties silhouette in Skepta’s signature colours. Other highlights include iridescent detailing to the tongue & ankle collar with SK branding to the tongue & the insoles.
An official release date for the Skepta x Nike Air Max Tailwind V trainer is not yet known, however be sure to keep posted at mint. for any future updates of the SK Air drop.
