SVD & ASICS Drop An Eco-Friendly GEL-Lyte III For July 2021
The SVD x ASICS GEL-Lyte III trainer puts a sustainable spin on the early 90s runner utilising a range of recycled materials.
Following on from the super colourful ‘Tormaline’ trainer which dropped last month, the iconic split tongued runner now returns for July 2021. ASICS have joined forces with the Spanish sneaker store Sivasdescalzo, or SVD as they are more commonly known. With stores in the heart of Spain’s streetwear & sneaker scene, Madrid & Barcelona, SVD now turn to their attention to the early 90s runner for a sustainable spin on the OG silhouette & the introduction of the SVD x ASICS GEL-Lyte III trainer.
First introduced in 1990, the GEL-Lyte III continued the legacy of GEL sole technology & the original GEL-Lyte trainer from 1987. Just like its predecessor, the GEL-Lyte III was built for speed and featured a super lightweight design. Originally designed by Matsui-san it was the first GEL-Lyte model to feature the signature split tongue, a key characteristic of the OG silhouette. The GEL-Lyte quickly became to go to shoe for runners all over the world for its super comfy GEL cushioning and lightweight 10 oz design.
Drawing colourway inspiration from the natural elements of planet Earth, the collaboration features organic cotton & eco-leather uppers alongside a recycled foam split tongue. Recycled plastic bottles are used for the insoles and jute fiver laces add a unique rustic vibe. Other highlights include ‘SVD’ branding to the lateral sides and of course the signature GEL cushioning underfoot.
